With half a dozen releases, the month of October proved to be quite profitable for Bollywood. Against the expectations of trade analysts, small budget and out of the league releases, Andhadhun and Badhaai Ho, both starring Ayushmann Khurrana, raked in moolah. Badhaai Ho, also starring Neena Gupta, Gajraj Rao and Sanya Malhotra, is expected to enter the coveted Rs 100 crore club. But the rest of the releases of the month failed to leave an impact on the audience.
Sriram Raghavan’s thriller Andhadhun had a low first day collection with only Rs 2.70 crore in its kitty but the film picked up during the weekend. And from thereon it just grew stronger. By the end of its more than three weeks run at the theaters, the film managed to add Rs 64.55 crore to its account. Similarly, Amit Ravindernath Sharma directorial Badhaai Ho that has been winning hearts with its pitch-perfect performances is on its way to being another Rs 100 crore earner of the year.
The movie based on the story of a family dealing with an unexpected pregnancy of an elderly couple is currently leading the box office with a total collection of Rs 89.35 crore. The Ayushmann starer is still running in theaters. Both Andhadhun and Badhaai Ho remained unaffected with releases like LoveYatri, Helicopter Eela, Namaste England and Tumbbad which failed to pick up momentum in the first week of their release.
