Mijwan 2018: Bollywood’s biggest stars unite to walk the ramp

Mumbai: Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor walked the ramp at the 2018 Mijwan Fashion Show wearing ensembles by designer Manish Malhotra.

The two stars who have worked together in multiple films such as Bachna Ae Haseeno and Tamasha also collaborated for the show in 2014. This year marks the ninth edition of the walk organized by Shabana Azmi’s NGO, Mijwan Welfare society.

Deepika wore an embellished floral lehenga while Ranbir wore a black bandhgala, both traditional ensembles designed by Malhotra.

The show itself was initially supposed to be held on April 9, however, it was postponed to April 19 as both Deepika and Ranbir had fallen ill. The rehearsal pictures and videos featured the actors walking the ramp. Manish had also shared pictures from fittings and rehearsals on his official Instagram handle. Celebrities present at the show include Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Mouni Roy, Neetu Kapoor, Kriti Kharbanda, Poonam Dhillon, Saqib Saleem, Pulkit Samrat and Yami Gautam.

Mijwan Welfare Society was started by actor Shabana Azmi to realise her father Kaifi Azmi’s dreams. Walk of Mijwan is held to showcase the fashion label associated with this welfare society.

 

Shahid Kapoor, Mira Rajput out with family to support Ishaan Khatter

Mumbai: Ishaan Khattar’s family came out in support for his movie debut, Beyond the Clouds. A special screening for the film directed by Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi was held in Mumbai and Ishaan’s half-brother Shahid Kapoor, Shahid’s wife Mira Rajput, mother Neelima Azeem and father Rajesh Khattar were present.

Ishaan will return to the multiplexes in July with Dhadak, producer Karan Johar’s remake of Marathi film, Sairat. Dhadak will also feature debutante Janhvi Kapoor, daughter of the late Sridevi.

Ishaan was born in 1995 to Azeem and actor Rajesh Khattar. Azeem was previously married to actor Pankaj Kapoor. Khattar and Azeem have since divorced as well.

 

 

Superman turns 80: Henry Cavill posts emotive tribute

America: On Superman’s 80th birth anniversary, Man of Steel star Henry Cavill paid his tributes to the righteous superhero, saying he will continue to live among the people irrespective of his age.

The 34-year-old actor who gained international fame starring as Superman in the 2013 DC film took to Instagram to express his gratitude to the iconic character first create by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster in 1933 that gave him hope and allowed him the “space to push myself beyond the limits of my patience”.

“For 80 years he has been saving our tails and indeed perhaps our souls. Inspiring us to be greater than we thought ourselves able. He’s certainly changed me, given me hope, allowed me space to push myself beyond the limits of my patience. Truly, what would a world be without Superman? He paved the way for all of our favorite heroes even if he’s not yours personally. A huge thank you to the incredibly talented artists and writers over the years who have given us so much. Within us, Superman will now live no matter how old he gets. Happy Birthday my friend,” Cavill wrote.

He also shared the portrait of Superman by artiste Eddie Liu who imagined how he would at the age of 80.

‘Beyond The Clouds’, Iranian director’s first film in India

Mumbai: Ishan Khatter gets joined by Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor and Boney Kapoor at the screening of Majid Majidi directorial, ‘Beyond The Clouds’. Also present at the screening was Ishaan Khatter and Shahid Kapoor’s mother, Neelima Azim.

Janhvi and Ishaan will make their Bollywood debut together in Dhadak.

Beyond The Clouds, it may be recalled is the Iranian auteur’s first film in India and will mark his debut in Indian cinema. The film has been made in Hindi and English languages. The film set in the Mumbai is about the bond between a brother and a sister. It stars Ishaan and Malvika Mohanan, daughter of ace cinematographer KU Mohanan. Mohanan made her film debut in Malayalam cinema.

Ishaan, the film’s protagonist is all set to make his Bollywood debut with Shashank Khaitan’s directorial Dhadak which incidentally marks the debut of late Sridevi’s daughter, Janhvi as well. Dhadak is a Hindi remake of Marathi hit Sairat based on a love story set in a caste tangle. The film was an unprecedented hit and went on to make more than Rs 100 crores. Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions has put its money in the film.

 

 

Karan Johar will get a wax statue at Madame Tussauds London

Mumbai: Filmmaker Karan Johar gets a wax statue at Madame Tussauds London. He will be Bollywood’s first filmmaker to get a wax figure at the museum.

“Karan Johar’s talent and career goes well beyond just filmmaking which makes him an exciting and entertaining personality for them to add to the many other iconic International wax figures. Additionally, his wax figure will not just be launched in one city but will simultaneously head out on tour across Asia to give his many fans across the world a chance to experience him being waxed,” read a statement. The wax statue will be launched later this year.

KJo also tweeted about it and said he’s ‘honored.’

Karan Johar, 45, debuted as a director 20 years ago with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s hit film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Later, he directed films like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Naa Ho, My Name Is Khan and Student of the Year. 2016’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is his last directed film. Meanwhile, he produced hit films such as Dostana, Agneepath, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Badrinath Ki Dulhania. The Hindi version of S S Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Conclusion was distributed by Dharma Productions.

Not just filmmaking, Johar has also appeared on screen for some films and hosts award shows too. Indradhanush in 1989 was his debut TV show. In 1995’s blockbuster film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, he featured as Shah Rukh Khan’s friend. He has also appeared in films like Bombay Velvet and Welcome To New York.

 

 

 

Karan Johar revives father Yash Johar’s dream project ‘Kalank’

Mumbai: Karan Johar has finally green-lighted his father and filmmaker Yash Johar’s fifteen-year-old dream project ‘Kalank’ which will now be directed by Abhishek Varman of ‘2 States’ fame.

The multi-starrer will star the much-loved jodi of Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan besides Aditya Roy Kapur, Sonakshi Sinha and the ‘Saajan’ pair of Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit.

According to the reports, ‘Kalank’ is an epic emotional historical drama set in the 1940s and goes beyond borders. Karan’s father Yash had reportedly been hands-on with the research on the project as he was rumored to have even travelled to Lahore to create a Pakistan from the ’40s. While Shibani Bathija has written the story, Abhishek has written its fluid narrative and screenplay. With such a huge and celebrated star cast and an epic story, this one seems to be the one to watch out for.

‘Kalank’ is slated to release on Good Friday, April 19, 2019.

 

Saqib Saleem bares it all for Salman Khan

Mumbai: Remo D’souza’s upcoming action thriller ‘Race 3’ has been piquing the curiosity of the audiences for quite a while now. Needless to say, this has definitely raised the expectations of the viewers. And now, the latest news is that Saqib Saleem and Sonakshi Sinha are all set to shake a leg for their upcoming thriller ‘Race 3’. While the actors were busy preparing for the song, Salman Khan came up with an exciting and interesting suggestion.

According to reports, Salman visited the sets and took a look at the costumes and asked Saqib to go shirtless for the song.

The actor had been working out on his look and body for quite a while now and has put up a beefed-up physique and it goes without saying that Khan is a fitness freak by nature and on seeing Saqib and his transformation, he suggested Remo make the required amendments in the song.

Salman Khan who was recently convicted of poaching two endangered blackbuck antelopes and sentenced to five years in prison is having a tough time handling his Bollywood projects. The Bollywood superstar has been asked not to leave the country without the consent of the court which in return is affecting his shoot schedules.

However, thanks to his well-wishers and close friends in the industry, the producers and the filmmakers are coming out with solutions in order to deal with this impediment. His upcoming film ‘Race 3’ which also stars Jacqueline Fernandez, Daisy Shah, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol and Saqib Saleem in titular roles was scheduled to shoot a special song in exotic land of South Africa. However, owing to Salman’s conviction and court orders, the makers have now reportedly shifted their shoot location to the picturesque Leh Ladakh. The trailer of the film which was slated to release on June 15th, 2018 will now release on April 27th, 2018.

 

 

 

 

Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter wrap up shoot of Dhadak

Mumbai: Actors Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter have wrapped up the shoot of Shashank Khaitan’s Dhadak. The movie is an official remake of Marathi blockbuster Sairat, went on the floor in December last year. Then, Karan Johar shared a beautiful picture of the two leads, Ishaan and Janhvi from the city of lakes Udaipur to announce his project going on the floor and now it is Janhvi and Dharma Productions who have shared a photo to hint at the wrap of the film.

While the caption on Janhvi’s Instagram post only reads, “Home”, KJo posted an endearing click of the two actors and director Shashank with the caption, “The warmest trio at @DharmaMovies !! @ShashankKhaitan is truly the strongest guide…mentor…friend And above all director! Janhvi and Ishaan are truly the heartbeat of #Dhadak.” Ever since the film went on floors, several photos of Ishaan and Janhvi surfaced on social media from shoot locales and it was the camaraderie between the two actors which caught everyone’s eyes. Also, the stills of the movie hint at the intensity of love between Janhvi aka Pari and Ishaan aka Madhuk. The movie has been shot in the picturesque locales of Mumbai, Udaipur, Jaipur and Kolkata.

Wrap up for “Gully Boy”

Mumbai: Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhat has come to an end. Alia, on Sunday posted an image on her Instagram, announcing the end of the shoot. She captioned the image with, “Gully Boy film wrap.”

The film is being produced by Exel Entertainment and directed by Zoya Akhtar. It is based on the lives of rappers Divine and Naezy who rose to stardom from the streets of Mumbai. Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt had to train a lot for this film. They kept their fans updated by regularly posting pictures from the sets. The flick is set to release on February 14, 2019.

Alia and Zoya are working together for the first time while Ranveer Singh had worked on Zoya’s family Drama Dil Dhadakne Do.

Alia Bhatt will soon be seen in Meghna Gulzar’s Raazi. The actor, apart from her shoot for Gully Boy has been busy promoting Raazi which is set to release on May 11, 2018.

 

 

 

Tribute to Vinod Khanna; veteran actor honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award

New Delhi: The jury of National Film Award, on Friday, decided to give Dadasaheb Phalke Award to Veteran actor Vinod Khanna as a tribute. India’s highest film award has been given to the actor almost a year after his death. Khanna was passed away in April 2017 after a prolonged illness. Directorate of Film Festivals, set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, presents the Dadasaheb Phalke Award every at National Film Awards ceremony.

As of 2016, the award comprises a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of Rs. 1,000,000.

Jury members include Kannada director P Sheshadri, screenwriter Imtiaz Hussain, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Tripurari Sharma, South Indian actress Gautami Tadimalla, Ranjit Das, Rumi Jaffrey, lyricist Mehboob, and Rajesh Mapuskar, headed by director Shekhar Kapur.

President Ram Nath Kovind will hand-over the awards to the winners in an official ceremony on May 3.
