PUNE: Four people were killed and nine were injured when a hoarding in railway station premises fell on vehicles on the adjoining road. The incident happened on a busy traffic hour where hundreds of commuters were sitting at the signal.
The deceased have been identified as Shyamrao Kasar (70), Shyam Dhotre (45), Javed Khan (49) and Shivaji Pardeshi (40). The injured were rushed to Sassoon General Hospital. At least five of them are said to be in a critical condition.
The 40-feet hoarding collapsed on vehicles that had stopped at Shahir Amar Shaikh Chowk traffic light near Pune Railway Station. The hoarding was being dismantled by a contractor when it came crashing down, Deputy Commissioner of Police B Singh said.
The eyewitnesses to the incident stated that the incident was so brutal that the deceased were brutally killed on the spot. “We have constituted a high-level committee to probe the incident,” Pune Divisional Railway Manager Milind Deouskar said.
