NEW DELHI: BJD Supremo and Oddisa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik shows his support to NDA candidate Harivansh Narayan Singh, a first-time lawmaker from Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United. Our party will support the JDU candidate in the Rajya Sabha’s deputy chairman election,” Mr Patnaik said on Wednesday, attributing the decision to his party’s conviction that there should be unanimity in appointment to constitutional posts.
Patnaik further informed that a number of political leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah had spoken to him in this regard. With no clear majority of both NDA and UPA, support of regional parties like BJD is considered to be crucial during the election for the deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha.
NDA nominee Harivansh and joint opposition candidate B K Hariprasad for the post of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman, with both sides claiming majority support.
