NRC in Assam: Modi has assured Hasina, India won’t deport NRC-excluded people says Bangladesh official

NEW DELHI: Bangladesh said that it has received assurance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi those who were excluded from the list under the NRC exercise will not be sent to Bangladesh.

The Supreme-court monitored update of the NRC is an exercise to identify genuine Indian nationals residing in Assam. Speaking to a global media delegation in Dhaka, the influential Political Adviser to Ms. Hasina, H. T. Imam, said that Dhaka has also been repearedly assured on similar lines by other Indian dignitaries including by the High Commissioner of India Harsh Vardhan Shringla.

Earlier BJP general secretary Ram Madhav had said that people excluded from the final list of Assam-specific NRC would be removed from the voter list and deported to their country.
