PUNJAB: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has turned down Pakistan’s invitation to the ground-breaking for the Kartarpur corridor as Pakistan continued terrorist attacks in Punjab and the killing of Indian soldiers at the LoC.
Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu will, however, visit Pakistan to attend the Kartarpur border corridor event on November 28. Capt. Amarinder, however, said he hopes to visit the shrine across the border once normalcy between the two countries is restored.
In a letter to Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the Chief Minister has welcomed the historic occasion, which he described as the cherished desire of the Sikhs around the world, but said he must most reluctantly, however, regret his inability to be present.
Minister Sidhu, meanwhile, in a letter to Mr. Qureshi wrote, “’It is with great honour and unalloyed joy that I accept your invitation to attend the ground-breaking ceremony…I look forward to meeting you on this historic occasion.”
