Washington: Wife of US President Donald Trump and First lady Melania has undergone surgery for what the White House described as a “benign kidney condition”. The procedure was successful with no complications. However, she was expected to remain hospitalised for the rest of the week. Her office said surgeons had performed an embolisation procedure on her at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center yesterday.
A statement was put out by the White House said, “This morning, First Lady Melania Trump underwent an embolisation procedure to treat a benign kidney condition.”
“The surgery was successful and there were no complications,” it said.
Embolisation is most often used to block the blood supply to a tumour, benign or cancerous.
Melania Trump, 48, is expected to spend the rest of the week recovering at the medical centre, in Bethesda, Maryland.
“The First Lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere,” the White House said.
President Donald Trump visited her and spent a little over an hour with his wife. “Successful procedure, she is in good spirits. Thank you to all of the well-wishers!,” he tweeted.
